Our Mission

Pilot International’s mission is to influence positive change in communities throughout the world. To do this, we come together in friendship and service, focusing on encouraging brain safety and health and supporting those who care for others.

The Virginia District began in 1937 when the Pilot Club of Bristol was chartered. Our district has grown into 7 clubs with over 200 members. Virginia has been the home District of four Past International Presidents. In addition, the artist P. Buckley Moss is an honorary member.

From the beginning, Virginia District Clubs have participated in a large variety of community service projects. Virginia Pilots are strong supporters of Pilot International’s BrainMinders™ program. BrainMinders™ ,the signature project for Pilot International, was introduced at the International Convention in Denver, in July 2001. The award-winning program features safety tips for children and is presented by Pilot Clubs around the world. 500,000 books are in circulation.

The Pilot Club of Chesapeake within the Virginia District was the first Pilot Club to bring Project Lifesaver to the attention of Pilot International. From this first introduction and support from Pilot Clubs across the nation, Project Lifesaver has expanded nationally and internationally with a 100% success recovery rate. In 2006, Pilot International and Project Lifesaver officially joined as partners. The Pilot International flag flies at Project Lifesaver headquarters located in Chesapeake, VA.

If you want to give back to your community, make lifelong friends, and participate in an international service organization. Please contact the nearest Pilot Club to you.

BrainMinders

What is BrainMinders TM?

BrainMindersTM is Pilot International’s signature program originally designed in 2001 to teach safety to children to help prevent brain injuries. It was made possible through an in-kind grant given to Pilot International Foundation and a gift from the estate of Callye Harrell Neese. Realizing the need to teach brain injury prevention to people of all ages, Pilots have expanded the program to include presentations for youth and seniors. Most Pilot Clubs as well as many Anchor Clubs present BrainMinderTM Programs to persons of all ages, based on the services needed in their community. Pilot International was awarded the prestigious 2001 Association Publications Contest Grand Prize for the BrainMindersTM Program.

Contact Us: Our Pilot Clubs are available to come and perform our Brainminder Presentation to Pre schoolers, Schools, churches, YMCA. We also have an adapted Brainminders called Brain-O for seniors. Please contact any of our clubs on our District Club Page .

We look forward to hearing from you.

Supported Projects of the Virginia District:

Each year the Virginia District picks 2 projects to support. We allocate money from our District budget and we also raise money by Fundraisers held throughout the year. We support the Brain Injury Association of Virginia by financially supporting one person to be able to attend a week at their Summer Camp called "Camp Bruce McCoy".

We also support Service Dogs of Virginia. Founded in 2000 by Executive Director Peggy Law, SDV has placed over 100 assistance and facility dogs in of the Commonwealth of Virginia without passing on the significant cost of training. The ultimate measure of success is when a person is able to return to work, attend school safely, use fewer personal care attendant hours, and find increased personal freedom, safety, independence, companionship, and happiness. The support we receive from individuals, foundations, businesses, and the community is critical to helping us realize our mission. SDV receives no support from the government and service dogs are not covered by medical insurance. The gift our dogs give is priceless. And the individuals who receive a dog are forever grateful.
